SUNY'S Privacy Policy

Suny.edu's Commitment to Privacy

At the State University of New York (SUNY), we are committed to protecting your privacy and making it easier and more efficient for individuals and businesses to interact with SUNY. We recognize that it is critical for individuals and businesses to be confident that their privacy is protected when they visit suny.edu. You can travel through most of suny.edu without giving us any information about yourself. Sometimes we do need information to provide services that you request, and this commitment of privacy explains our online information practices.

SUNY does not collect any personal information about you unless you provide that information voluntarily by sending an e-mail, completing the SUNY Information Request Form, or completing the online application.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") was enacted as a part of a broad Congressional attempt at health care reform to ensure the portability of health insurance coverage, streamline the business of health care and protect the confidentiality of personal health information. With respect to protecting personal health information, HIPAA requires that certain health care providers, health plans and other entities implement specific safeguards on how such health information may be utilized. SUNY's Notice of Privacy Practices describes how health information about you may be used and disclosed by SUNY and how you can access and control the use and disclosure of such information.

This policy is consistent with the provisions of the Internet Security and Privacy Act, the Freedom of Information Law, and the Personal Privacy Protection Law.
