Follow the 2009 Campus Tour

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher began her tenure on June 1, 2009, with a commitment to visit all 64 SUNY campuses in her first 100 days so she can meet with and learn from students, faculty, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders on the future of New York’s public higher education system. The tour, which concluded September 3, 2009, marked the first step in creation of a SUNY-wide strategic plan, expected to be completed in the spring. Follow the tour below and share your ideas here.

Sullivan County Community College: September 3, 2009

Chancellor Zimpher visited Sullivan County Community College Thursday, September 3, 2009. The visit was her last stop on the unprecedented 64-Campus Tour. She was welcomed by President Mamie Howard-Golladay and later met with the President's Cabinet and members of the Board of Trustees, Foundation Board member and local elected officials. At the conclusion of her visit, she attended a campus-wide reception.

Prior to her final campus visit at Sullivan County Community College, Chancellor Zimpher held a press conference on the lawn at SUNY Plaza in Albany (photos below).

Nassau Community College: September 2, 2009

During her visit to Nassau Community College Wednesday, September 2, 2009, Chancellor Zimpher and President Sean A. Fanelli (photo below, left) hosted an open forum for campus administrators and members of the college Board of Trustees. They later met with faculty and staff (photo below, right) and toured the campus.

Suffolk County Community College: September 2, 2009

Chancellor Zimpher visited Suffolk County Community College Wednesday, September 2, 2009. She joined Interim President George Gatta, Jr. for meetings with campus leaders and Chancellor's Award recipients. She and Interim President Gatta also participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on the campus' new "green" Workforce Development and Technology Center, which will be used by faculty and students in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program and the college’s new Manufacturing Technology associate’s degree (A.A.S.) program.

Niagara County Community College: September 1, 2009

Chancellor Zimpher visited the Niagara County Community College campus Tuesday, September 1, 2009. President James P. Klyczek welcomed her to the campus and she met with the NCCC Board of Trustees, Foundation Board and Executive Council. She also hosted an open forum for the campus community (photo below).

ACC enrolls more than 2,000 full-time students and more than 1,400 part-time students on 141 acres of land at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. ACC offers students opportunities to participate in a variety of academic, cultural, social and athletic events throughout the year.

ESC offers motivated adults the opportunity to earn associate, bachelors and master’s degrees. Through a combination of face-to-face meetings with faculty, online courses and small study groups, students can learn anytime and anywhere. The college serves 19,000 students at 35 locations across New York State and through its Center for Distance Learning.

Following her campus visit, Chancellor Zimpher, her husband, Dr. Kenneth R. Howey, and President Davis were at Saratoga Racetrack, where they presented the winners of the first-ever SUNY Chancellor race with a trophy in the Winner's Circle (photos below).

RCC enrolls more than 6,000 full- and part-time students, including 200 international students from more than 50 foreign countries and approximately 1,500 students over 30 years old. A distinguished faculty comprised of about 125 full-time and 200 part-time members includes numerous Fulbright Scholars, SUNY Chancellor’s Award winners, published authors and artists. A low faculty-student ratio of 18:1 allows faculty members to work one-on-one with students.

SUNY Delhi’s Golf/Turf Management Programs are the Best in New York State and among the Top 15 in nation, according to Turfnet Magazine (2007). Currently, SUNY Delhi is vying to become one of only 25 PGA of America accredited Professional Golf Management programs in the US and the only accredited program in the northeast.

Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the SUNY Morrisville recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. The college was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities Magazine.

Chancellor Zimpher visited SUNY Oswego Wednesday, July 15, 2009. President Deborah F. Stanley and the Oswego community welcomed the chancellor at a breakfast and ceremony at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse. The chancellor later met with faculty and students to discuss Oswego's science initiatives, teacher education outreach programs and the Chancellor’s goals for the University. President Stanley and Chancellor Zimpher also hosted a campus forum, which as webcast by WRVO (View the Forum), and announced the launch of Possibility Scholarships, which aim to help students in the Oswego and Syracuse City School Districts who otherwise would not be able to afford pursuing degrees in science and technology fields.

SUNY Upstate Medical Center: July 14, 2009

SUNY Upstate President David R. Smith hosted Chancellor Zimpher’s visit Tuesday, July 14, 2009. They announced plans to build a $20 million, 60,000-square-foot fcenter that will create and support biotechnology, educational and research programs.The project is a joint venture between SUNY Upstate Medical University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

As Central New York's only academic medical center, SUNY Upstate educates more than 1,200 students in four colleges: Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, and Nursing. The campus also hosts 450 graduate physicians in residency and fellowship training programs and provides continuing education to practitioners. In addition, SUNY Upstate faculty are investigating more than 400 research projects.

SUNY Maritime College graduates enjoy the best value of a public education while earning top average starting salaries in America. In 2008, more than 110 companies from business, engineering, maritime, and government industries recruited students from the SUNY Maritime College campus. The average starting salary for the undergraduate Class of 2008 was $61,000. Chancellor Zimpher visited the University at Albany, where she joined UAlbany President George Philip, State Senators Hugh Farley and Neil Breslin, Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings, Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, and Albany Business School Dean Donald Siegal to annouce the selection of an internationally accalimed architectural firm to design a new building at the Business School and a recent gift from Ernst & Young that has helped place UAlbany within 10 percent of a $64 million fundraising goal.

Cornell University: June 3, 2009

Chancellor Zimpher was in Ithaca, NY, and visited SUNY's four statutory colleges at Cornell University, including the College of Veterinary Medicine, where she met with Austin O. Hooey Dean of Veterinary Medicine Michael Kotlikoff, and toured the College's Companion and Large Animal hospitals (photos below).
