Statement from Interim SUNY Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark

December 17, 2007

DRAFT

“On behalf of the administration, faculty, staff and students of the State University of New York, I wish to convey our deep appreciation for the tremendous work of Chairman Rawlings, Executive Director Reid, the Commission members and the Commission staff who brought to bear their broad expertise in public and independent higher education and public service to create a comprehensive blueprint that addresses the challenges facing higher education in New York State.

“The Commission report (1) builds on the foundations of past state higher education commissions to ensure that a top quality public college education is an affordable option for generations to come, and (2) outlines an educational plan for the reinvigoration of the state and thus the nation, through increased investment in faculty, research, operations and facilities.

“The Commission understands the educational needs of New Yorkers and has outlined an aggressive approach to meet them.  We look forward to working with Governor Spitzer, the Senate and the State Assembly on the agenda set forth by the Commission.”
